Our “Mission Focused” Approach
Strength in Depth
Maintaining Mutual Support
When you engage the services of NorthCo management you don’t just get a single individual, you get the support and experience of the entire NorthCo Management team.
We believe our unique process sets us apart by adding rigour to our planning, support for our Interims and enhanced results for our client.
The process is powerful, drawing out many years of our combined experience and bringing it to bear on your project.
The following is an outline of how we try to operate, we completely appreciate that time is often of the essence and to that end perhaps there is no time to plan. In this situation, we are entirely comfortable just “getting amongst it” with little or even no brief!

Understanding the Current Situation
Relationships are important to us, as is our reputation for delivering results. We will not take on any job unless we are confident in delivering a positive result for our client.
Because of the dynamic way we work it is important that we completely understand the current situation, conditions, environment and circumstances surrounding each assignment we consider.
Of course some situations are more complex than others but using a well practiced approach the process of appreciation doesn’t take us long. Each of us is well versed in cutting through “fog and noise” and getting to the centre of gravity of the situation.
Our approach doesn’t slow us down, in fact quite the opposite, because we do a thorough “fact find” at the outset we tend to be able to react much faster than most.
What does good look like?
What is the "effect" you want us to achieve
It doesn’t take us long and its a pretty straightforward process but we are sticklers for making sure the effect we achieve is the effect you want. We like things to be clear and definite.
Our brief might be as simple as:
- “Our FD needs help with pulling together a business plan for next months board meeting.”
- “Our CEO is on long-term sick, and we need an experienced Interim CEO to hold the fort.”
- “We have a business within our portfolio that we are worried about, can you help the management team”, or;
- “We need help with a restructure, the numbers, the legal’s and managing the process and don’t have this experience in-house, can you support our HR team?”
Of course, there will be “strategic byproducts”, but we like to make sure we know what is expected of us.
Aligning our effort with your direction
Cutting through the "fog and noise"
Once we understand what needs to be done we will appoint the most appropriate Interim to lead the assignment. Dependent upon the requirements we may need to bring in specific specialists to manage a specific phase, for example, a sales process re-design would not be suited to a finance director. The Lead will always be the lead but will be supported by our specialists in this example.
We use a simple planning methodology which we have developed in-house, it combines many years of business planning with British military planning processes. The M.O.S.T. model – Mission, Objectives, Strategy, Tasks.
Getting on the ground
Creating positive effects
Reporting -Our standard practice is to report weekly on our previous week’s activity and to identify, looking forward, our intentions for the week ahead.
Friday Conference Call – We hold a weekly NorthCo conference call, all of our team attend this call, and we discuss each project and measure our Interim against the M.O.S.T. plan.
Monthly Operational review – We hold a Monthly Operational Meeting with all of our Interims. Each Interim presents progress to their colleagues, we assess progress against each M.O.S.T. plan and discuss blockages and issues.
